Revising Processes

Sometimes, the departure of an employee presents the organization with the opportunity to view the job from a different perspective. Refilling the position and assigning the same duties and responsibilities as before may not be the most efficient way to proceed. Instead, the organization may decide to reexamine the business processes that made up the job as well as those of other related positions.

This is an area that is evolving in Iowa state government. More than one approach is currently being used, including ZOOM, Kaizen and LEAN. Business process redesign is closely allied with human resource functions because those business processes determine the duties and responsibilities of individual positions.
