1. How do I apply for a state job?
• Visit the Iowa.Jobs page and follow the NEW online application process.
• Visit the Iowa.Jobs.Promo page if you are a current State of Iowa employee.
• Search for a vacancy that matches your job search criteria. Applications are only accepted if a vacancy is posted on the Iowa.Jobs site (unless a job class is open to continuous application.)
• Each vacancy announcement includes specific application instructions, an Auto Req ID (previously known as a vacancy number), and an application deadline date. Please follow instructions listed in the vacancy announcements. (You must use the Auto Req ID for each job for which you are applying.)
• Click on the box next to the job vacancy you want to apply for.
• Click the Apply for Job link and follow the instructions to upload your resume and complete the additional forms.
• If you are applying for a job class announced as open to continuous recruitment, Use the Auto Req ID for the job class. We maintain ongoing applicant eligible lists for these job classes ONLY.
2. Are there some common mistakes to avoid?
• The information on your applicant record must be accurate and complete or we may not be able to process it.
• Applying online is the preferred application method because it gives you a way to quickly check on your applicant status and provides your application information directly to the hiring supervisor in a more quickly.
• Make sure you apply for a job on or before the application deadline date. DAS-HRE is not responsible for late, lost, misdirected or damaged applications.
• It is to your advantage to include a resume with your online application that can be forwarded to the hiring supervisor if you qualify for the job class . If you submit a resume, make sure you include employment dates (month/year) and hours worked per week for each of your jobs.
• When you complete an online application, please remember to keep track of your user id (your e-mail address) and password. You will need these next time you sign on to access your online applicant information. If you forget your password, you can use the Forgot your password? link on the Iowa.Jobs page.
3. Can I apply for more job openings if I already have an application on file?
• You may apply for additional announced vacancies, or job classes open to continuous recruitment, if you have a new application entered into the new system that is less than two years old.
• If you would like to apply for additional vacancies using your current application on file, visit the IowaJobs page (or Iowa.Jobs.Promo if you are a current State of Iowa employee.) When you apply for a vacancy or open job class, click Continue rather than upload a new resume.
