SECTION 3.60 TRAINEE/JOURNEY RECLASSIFICATION
Following
is a list of job class series in which the employee must serve a minimum
trainee period before progressing to the journey level or higher. Different classes have different minimum
trainee time periods. Consult the "Qualifications" section of the
journey level class description for specifics.
Trainee/journey reclassifications are not automatic.
Supervisors
are responsible for reviewing the progress of the employee in the trainee class. If the employee's performance is not at the
journey level, the trainee period may be extended beyond the minimum time
required. Under no circumstance can the
period of time be shorter than that required on the journey level class
description.
When
the employee is performing at the journey level, a performance evaluation must
be completed and the personnel assistant asked to prepare a Position Change
Request (M-5) to have the employee's position changed to the journey level.
The
review of the employee's performance and the processing of the Position Change
Request (M-5) should be started one month prior to the time the employee is to
be reclassified to the journey class.
