Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) are a State of Iowa benefit that allow all State employees (who work at least 1040 hours/year) to pay for eligible health care expenses and dependent care expenses while saving money on income and FICA taxes.

You must enroll every year to participate!

The 2010 maximum for health expenses - $3,000

The 2010 maximum for dependent care expenses - $5,000

The grace period for incurring claims - March 15, 2011 to be reimbursed with 2010 payroll deductions

How do I enroll online?

girl on laptopOnly current participants may enroll online for 2010. ASI has mailed step by step instructions with their enrollment forms to all current participants’ homes. Go to https://secure.asiflex.com (employer code = iowa) between 10/23/09 & 11/23/09. Enter your Social Security number and click “Begin Enrollment”.

You must print a confirmation statement once the online enrollment
process is complete.
This is your documentation of the actual enrollment.
To make a change before open enrollment closes, you simply enroll again the
same way. The last on-line enrollment submitted as of 11/23/2009 is the one saved for your 2010 plan year participation.

Paper Enrollment Deadline

You must enroll each year if you wish to participate the next calendar year. If you are not currently enrolled, or if you do not wish to enroll online, you may obtain a paper enrollment form from your personnel assistant or download the form from the DAS/HRE website at http://das.hre.iowa.gov/fsa/forms_documents.html.

If you enroll with a paper form, your form must be mailed (post-marked) or delivered
to your personnel assistant by November 23, 2009.
