  Location: Des Moines, Hoover State Office Building, Level A

This course will provide new and experienced supervisors with the essential skills to be a good supervisor. Supervisors will learn to establish credibility, create an effective work style, manage their time and schedule their workload. They will discover the basics of coaching, communication, motivation, delegation and performance management, which will help create a higher performing team and decrease some of the stress associated with supervision.

Course Objectives

  • Identify the differences between thinking like a supervisor and thinking like a non-supervisor
  • Identify qualities of an effective leader
  • Identify methods of getting work done through others -- delegating
  • Identify what motivates employees and makes them productive
  • Providing feedback
  • Understanding the reality of being a supervisor
  • Develop awareness of tools and resources to assist in performing supervisory duties
