Severe Weather Policy
Scheduled PDS Courses may be cancelled if there is a severe weather
situation, such as a blizzard or ice storm, in which travel to the
course location may risk the individual health and safety of course
participant(s) or instructor(s).
PDS utilizes the DMACC Urban Campus as a guide for weather-related
cancellations. If the DMACC Urban Campus is closed due to inclement
weather, all PDS courses scheduled at the Capitol Complex and New
Horizons Computer Learning Center will be cancelled. Additionally,
courses will be cancelled if the Governor’s Office determines
to close state facilities on the Capitol Complex in Des Moines.
You may review the following media sources for reported closures
of the DMACC Urban Campus, New Horizons, and the Capitol Complex:
You may also call the following numbers for a pre-recorded message
on any course cancellations or known delays:
- For classes at the Capitol Complex, call (515) 725-2051.
- For classes at New Horizons, call (515) 226-3265.
Please note: If there
are no reported closures at the DMACC Urban Campus and no reported
closures of state facilities on the Capitol Complex, participants
will be expected to report to class.
Exceptions
may be made for individuals traveling into the Des Moines area from
a field location. Exception requests must be communicated by the
agency’s
training liaison to PDS prior to, or during, the course for which
the individual is enrolled.
In the event of a cancellation, individuals need to follow their
own department/agency policy for reporting to work. Information about
rescheduling the course will be distributed as soon as alternate
arrangements are made.
